Personal Activities of Daily Living are a primary indicator of functional status and capacity for independent living. Assessment focuses on essential self care tasks such as eating, grooming, showering, dressing and toileting. Observation considers the physical and cognitive demands of task completion, safety and the level of assistance required to complete activities independently and safely.

Instrumental Activities of Daily Living involve more complex tasks required for independent living and participation in the community. Assessment typically focuses on activities such as meal preparation, household management, shopping, use of transport, medication management, financial tasks, communication and community access. Observation considers the physical and cognitive demands of task completion, safety and the level of assistance required for tasks to be completed independently and reliably.

Assessment considers mobility, transfers, balance, strength, coordination, pain, endurance, postural tolerance and sensory function as they relate to movement, daily activity performance and safety within the environment.

Assessment considers psychosocial presentation, emotional regulation, behavioural responses and the functional impact of mental health symptoms on daily functioning, community participation, safety and required supports where relevant.
